Types of Eyebrow Permanent Makeup
What is Microblading?
Microblading is one of the types of semi-permanent makeup for eyebrow using a handheld disposable pen and a blade that’s made of 12-18 fine-point needles. The blade will scratch and deposit the medical-grade pigment manually in the epidermis layer of the skin. It mimics the natural hair of the eyebrows which creates featherlike, realistic and natural hair strokes. The hair strokes will blend perfectly with the existing hair creating a full and defined eyebrow shape.
What are Powder Brows?
Powder Brow is another type of semi-permanent makeup for eyebrows using a machine and disposable needles. It’s a gradual filling of the eyebrow shape using pixelation and shading technique. The healed result is similar to a soft powdery and pencilled eyebrow makeup. Unlike the traditional solid eyebrow tattoo, this technique is softer with better colour retention.

Color choices
Shape
Before we start the treatment, I will draw on your eyebrows by tracing their natural shape. I can tweak the shape of your natural eyebrows if they look droopy, too close to the eyelid or too high due to over-plucking, which don’t compliment your eyes and face. I will let you approve the pre-drawn shape and discuss any adjustments. The drawing will always appear thicker and darker than the final result as I will be using dark pencils for shaping. The shaping usually takes 30 min to 1 hour depending on the client’s skin and facial muscle’s condition. It is important that we both agree and confident with the eyebrow shape before we start the treatment.
Once we finalised the shape, I will secure the drawing with a marking pen and add the pre-numbing cream.
Healing Process
During the healing process, you will experience different emotions which are normal. In the first week, it is expected that eyebrows will appear darker, wider and bigger. It is important that you do not panic during the first week and trust the healing process of the skin. The first stage of the broken skin is the swelling period, followed by skin renewal after 5 days. It’s going to be itchy in the treated area when the dead skin starts to peel off. You might also notice that some of the pigment are disappearing. After 4 weeks, when the skin is fully healed, the pigment will be more visible. It is important that you return for your touch up after 4 weeks to retouch the areas that did not take pigment well.
Pre-Care
Before you come to your appointment, we would like to prepare you for the procedure to avoid some incidents like excessive bleeding, hypersensitive skin or pigment rejection.
Please remember the things to do before your appointment:
- Leave your hair to grow until your appointment so we can see the natural shape of your eyebrows.
- Do not wax and tint your eyebrows before the treatment
- Do not drink alcohol or caffeine 24 hours prior to your procedure (these are natural blood thinners that can cause excessive bleeding during the treatment)
- Do not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, Fish Oil or Advil/Ibuprofen 48 hours before your procedure – unless medically necessary (these are blood thinners as well)
- Do not have anti-ageing injection in the forehead and eye area 2-3 weeks before your appointment. This can affect the natural shape and level of your eyebrows.
- If you are using Vitamin A/Retinol/Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) in your skin routine, please discontinue 2 weeks prior to the treatment
- No tanning 2 weeks before and after treatment, this can affect the colour of the ink when healed.
- Be prepared for your eyebrows to look darker or red after the treatment (1 week), the colour retains at least 50% to 70% only in the 1st treatment and can be enhanced again on your touch up.
- Avoid Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion or other invasive facials 3 weeks prior to the procedure
- Have something to eat before the procedure as it will take 1.5 to 3 hrs session
- If you are not feeling well and having a flu-like symptoms, please cancel at least 24 hrs to re-schedule.
Post Care
Proper care following your treatment is necessary to achieve the best results. Please review the following instructions and refer to them as necessary.
You may experience the following symptoms for 4 days
- Minor swelling and redness.
- Mild tenderness.
- Itchiness in the eyebrow area.
- Dry flaking skin.
- These symptoms are a normal part of the healing process.
Daily care to follow for 7 days
- After 24 hours, wash your eyebrows with a mild cleanser to remove excess lymph and blood.
- Apply a healing balm 3x a day by using a cotton bud. Wash your hands before applying the product and prevent cross-contamination of the product by using a clean cotton bud for each eyebrow.
- Do not over-soaked your eyebrows with the healing balm, just enough to keep them moisturised.
- Do not sleep on your side.
- We recommend that you use a gentle facial cleanser to freshen your skin during the first week. Do not splash wash your face. Do however clean your eyebrows twice daily with damp cotton pads.
- Apply a thick layer of Vaseline to your eyebrow when washing your hair to prevent it from becoming wet. Remove the Vaseline with damp cotton pads.
- If your eyebrows get wet, gently pat the area dry using a clean tissue.
- Keep your hair away from your eyebrows to prevent the possibility of infection.
- Some itching is normal. DO NOT PICK, PEEL OR RUB your eyebrow as the colour may heal unevenly and you could risk infection, which in turn could lead to scarring. Allow the colour to flake away by itself.
- Do not receive skincare beauty treatments for 5 days after the application of your enhancement.
- No make-up or creams should be applied close to your eyebrows for 5 days.
Avoid for 2 weeks
- Do not expose your eyebrows to direct sun, tanning treatments, Jacuzzis, saunas, salt water, chlorinated pools and direct shower spray.
- Do not receive eyebrow tinting, waxing, electrolysis or laser hair removal treatments close to the eyebrow area.
Important notes
- Remember, your selected colour will be stronger and more sharply defined for 10 to 14 days after application but as the healing process occurs the colour will soften and lighten.
- The approximate healing period is 10-14 days, however, healing can be prolonged if your immune system is compromised and if you are generally stressed and by poor diet. The flaking and peeling usually finished by day 5-7, which means the top surface of the skin is already healed.
- Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of colour is to be expected in some cases up to 60 %. This is the purpose of the re-touch visit allowing us to fine-tune your eyebrows.
Maintenance
- Use good sunscreen. Sun exposure will fade your semi-permanent cosmetics.
- If you are planning a chemical peel, laser procedure or MRI scan, please inform the technician of your permanent cosmetics.
- Please inform the National Blood Service if you donate blood, as you may not be eligible to give blood for a year post-application.
- After 12 months, your semi-permanent makeup might have faded or have become thinner, you can come back for a top-up and colour boost.
